Theory Test
Theory Test
The Theory Test is taken in your own time and you will need to make your own way to the Test Centre ensuring you are punctual for your appointment.
You must pass the Theory Test before you are able to apply for your Practical Driving Test.
The Test itself consists of two parts:
-
Multiple Choice
-
Hazard Perception
You must pass both parts of the Theory Test to receive an Official Pass Certificate. Should you fail one or both parts you will have to take the whole test again.
Multiple Choice
The questions will cover all categories taught to you by your Instructor, such as Roundabouts, Crossroads and Road Signs.
The questions will be displayed on a touch screen with a number of answers for you to choose from. There may be more than one answer required for certain questions.
You will be asked 50 questions and are given 57 Minutes to complete this part of the test.
If you are unsure of the answer to any of the questions you may ‘flag’ them and come back to them later.
You will need to correctly answer 43 out of 50 questions in order to achieve the required 85% Pass Rate.
Hazard Perception
This part of the test consists of 14 video clips of every day scenarios on the road. Each scenario will include a hazard which you will need to identify.
As soon as you see a hazard developing, you will need to click on the mouse button provided to you. The earlier you spot the hazard developing, the higher your score will be. There may be more than one developing hazard during the scenario so you need to stay alert throughout the video clip.
You are only given one chance to respond to the hazard, as you would if you were actually driving the vehicle in the scenario. You cannot review your answers nor go back if you missed any of the hazards.
The maximum score you can receive for each scenario is 5. You must correctly identify 44 out of 75 hazards to achieve the required 58% Pass Rate.
Test Complete
Once you have completed the test you are able to leave the Examination Room. However, you will not be able to return to the Examination Room once you have left.
Your result will then be given to you by an Examiner at the Test Centre on your way out.
You must then inform your Instructor of your result. If you have reached the required standard during your lessons, your Instructor will then recommend you apply for your Practical Driving Test.
